Building progress

[ Funding updates ]

Date : March 2012

Our Vision of the First Pathways Residence materialised with a ground breaking ceremony on 6th September 2010 [ photos].

The foundation and floor was completed on the 21st October 2010 [ photos].

April 2011 the roof was on the house and the plastering began and the windows and sliding glass doors were in [ photos].

Now in November 2011 the inside of the house is painted, all the wall and floor tiling is done. The plumbing is complete with the toilets, baths, basins and taps fitted. All that remains is to have the glass panels and doors fitted to the 7 showers.

The kitchen and scullery cupboards are in, and the wood panels for the wardrobes have been delivered, fitting of wardrobes scheduled for early December.

The front door was fitted on the 15th November, the other 2 outside doors should be fitted early next week, and then the house is completely closed.

The gutters were fitted today 15th November; all that remains is to get a civil contractor in to prepare the ground around the house to lay paving. Once this is done, paint has already been delivered for the painters to paint the outside walls.

The electrician will be coming out to the house soon to connect the Eskom power into the house, put in the plugs and lights.

Our preference is to palisade fence the entire land area and to have an electric entrance gate so the property is completely secure. The residents can then cultivate a garden and grow vegetables for their own consumption as well as subsidise an income for the house.

So close.........

Thanks to the generosity and support of so many people, we are so close to reaching the goal, of providing residential semi-independent accommodation to 8 special young people, to live within and become part of a community.

Our request to you now, is to please consider once again to either offer a cash donation or to offer a material or workmanship sponsorship towards the completion phase of enabling these young adults to be able to move into their new home.
